Vatata put Bittorrent,emule and Gnutella into TV
Recently, Vatata, a P2P technology solution provider, launched conceptualization of P2P-STB solutions. The solutions can support a close p2p network for STB devices, it can also connect directly to the public P2P networks, download media content and play it directly on the television. The conceptualization P2P-STB solutions include two components: front-end embedded software and backend system.
Font-end of P2P-STB is a set of the multi-protocol, highly efficient p2p embedded software system, the protocol include: Bittorret, Emule, Gnutella and Vatata. The STB can access to these P2P networks freely, download media content and play it, watch VOD programs and watch live programs directly. Becuse most of these STB devices will be in home and behind the home gateway, NAT traversal performance will more important than pc desktop application, the traditional public P2P networks, NAT traversal have poor performance. Vatata extends public p2p protocol, not only to share resources between STB devices, but also to share resources between STB devices and public p2p networks. This open and not "vampire" attitude, making P2P-STB-based networks become a part of of the public P2P networks,This will let the public networks more stable, and P2P-STB devices can also continued access to content resources, this is a reasonable ecosystem. Up to now,the front-end embedded software have been tested in many STB hardware platforms, such as: TI / INTEL / NXP / RMI, etc. It run very well in these platforms.
The backend system of P2P-STB is a management system with public content access and analysis system, which includes a search engine system for the public P2P networks, a real-time health checking system for the public P2P network links, a public P2P network transmission optimization system, a media formats Intelligent identification system and a user self-service portal system.
The public P2P network search engine will build a public content links database, based on this link database, real-time health checking system will real-time scan these links and choose some "good" connected links. For speeding up content downloading, it should optimize these "good" links. Optimization of the public P2P networks, including two aspects, using technology (such as P4P technology etc.) to optimize the network topology is one aspect, and the other should establish cache content super nodes for these "good" connected links. The next step, media formats Intelligent identification system will filter out formats suitable for specific STB devices from links database. Users can use self-service portal system to manage STB, or customize their personalized channel menus.
Vatata launched this conceptualization P2P-STB solution, based entirely on the existing Internet and television, it can use public P2P networks' resources, can also establish a closed, security content network by vatata's p2p protocol, it completely depends on the manufacturer's business choice.
