100 Milioni di abbonati all'IPTV nel 2010


Broadband World Forum Europe di Parigi, grandi produttori del calibro di Cisco, Motorola, Philips e Tatung hanno annunciato nuovi set-top box, che supporteranno il software Microsoft Iptv Edition.


I prodotti, basati su tecnologia c.d. system-on-a-chip (SoC), sono in grado di ricevere canali televisivi ad alta definizione, di gestire registrazioni video digitali e funzionalita' c.d. picture-in-picture.


Microsoft ha definito l'arrivo di queste set-top box come una pietra miliare per il mercato dell'IPTV, mercato su cui il colosso americano nutre grandi ambizioni. Fra le altre societą di telecomunicazioni che hanno deciso di utilizzare la tecnologia del big di Redmond vi sono Bell Canada, Reliance Infocomm, SBC Communications, Swisscom/Bluewin e Telecom Italia.Nel frattempo, Alcatel si aspetta che entro il 2010 su scala globale vi saranno oltre 100 milioni gli abbonati alla Iptv.
